Novus was never just a server to us. It was a world we built together—full of danger, freedom, friendships, rivalries, and stories the community carried long after it went quiet. Because you never forgot it, neither could we.
NOS Redux begins with Classic: the strongest recoverable Novus foundation we have, centered on the Dec. 1999 TUS scripts and world. It is not a frozen launch-day museum. The original shard changed constantly, and the archive preserves several different versions of the rules, world, client, and economy.
Why late 1999
The late-1999 archive is unusually concrete. It contains server configuration, item and creature definitions, skill and ore tables, triggers, world saves, map regions, official news, player rules, staff rules, login instructions, and named places.
That is enough to rebuild real things: the Britain bank vending row, fifteen-metal mining table, Newby Dungeon, Duel Pits, Chaos Isle services, custom eggs and creatures, deed catalog, grave digging, and the Dec. 13 Teleport Center network.
What Classic changes deliberately
Redux runs on SphereX, not a 1999 TUS binary. Pet ownership, transactions, staff privileges, saves, and unsafe item scripts are rebuilt for the current server. Later Novus policies—such as the larger bank, murder decay, instant guards, and shield price—are adopted where they suit the completed Classic world.
Those choices are recorded. A modern Order counterpart is not described as a recovered island when no placed Order Island survived. The old casino definition is not described as a proven public casino floor. New acquisition paths are labeled as Redux work.
Evolution is not another wipe
Evolution begins with the characters, guilds, houses, losses, victories, and economy created in Classic. It gives us room to add new areas and systems without dressing them up as forgotten history.
Classic is the recovered foundation. Evolution is the same Novus moving again.
